Those with a heart for service will be very excited about this opportunity! We'll be traveling to Charleston WV, to support under-staffed social service organizations meeting the needs of families in urban Appalachia. During a week in Charleston, our group will have the opportunity to learn firsthand about the people, history and culture of the city.
We will serve and build relationships with a variety of people in Charleston through the Boys & Girls Club, Union Mission, Covenant House and local senior centers. During the evenings, worship with a local congregation and feast with friends old and new at a community potluck, which almost always includes a famous homemade cobbler! The mission team we've chosen, YouthWorks, has partnered with this community since 2003.
Service Opportunities: Students may serve all or part of the week at a food shelf, clothing distribution center, soup kitchen, children’s program or elder care facility.
Lodging: Students will need to bring an air mattress or a sleeping bag, as we'll be sleeping on the floor of the church (girls and boys on separate floors).
